Unknown Mortal Orchestra has dropped its annual Christmas track for 2021. It is a sprawling, pseudo-tropical slow-burner instrumental.

This instrumental song is the third song for this New Zealand psych-rockers in 2021 which is titled ‘SB-09’. In fact, it is the ninth installment of their ‘SB’ series. Even though it’s towering in length, it is one of the shortest of the series. Previous track ‘SB-03’ is clocking in around 12 minutes while ‘SB-05’ was near about 28 minutes.
During the first passage, UMO front-man Ruban Nielson plays a droning guitar. This warbly part is the reflection of surf-rock and reggae. However, a distorted phaser hum is running in the background. Then a breezy, sun-kissed section presents a blissful chunk of acoustic noodling.

Previously UMO released “Weekend Run” in June and “This Life” in August. This group also shared a remix of Arlo Park’s track “Too Good”. It was a piece of sense of intimacy, hypnotic hurt.

Besides the group’s releases, UMO was busy featuring on numerous tracks by other artists. They have performed in Free Nationals’s “Beauty & Essex” in 2019. Amine’s “Buzzin” in 2020 was also a great performance of this music group.
